Our Diversity courses introduce many of the key concepts and requirements introduced in the Equality Act 2010.

Disability Diversity Training

Disability Diversity training has a long tradition which recognises that diversity and difference should be valued.

People can face discrimination because of disability, gender, race, age, sexual orientation and religion.  In an effort to ensure that we build a more inclusive society, we must address discrimination and disadvantage.

Aims

This course aims to highlight the unique issues of exclusion, discrimination and stereotyping experienced by disabled people and other people in our society protected by Equality Act 2010

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course staff should:

  • understand the importance of the Equality Act (2010) in building a fairer, more inclusive society
  • be aware to the key concepts of this legislation
  • understand the importance of the correct use of language in relation to equality
  • identify barriers that disabled people face and be able to suggest ways of challenging these
  • outline the Disability Equality Duty

Format

GCIL training is delivered by experienced disabled trainers. The course will be as participative as possible with members of the group involved through discussion and small group activities.

Length of course: Full Day or Half-Day

Participants: maximum 15

Diversity Training

Aims

This course aims to highlight the issues of exclusion, discrimination and stereotyping experienced by individuals or members of the group who are covered by the legal concept of "protected characteristic" in the Equality Act 2010.

Learning objectives

By the end of the course staff will be able to:

  • outline the importance of the language
  • understand how discrimination can occur through omission or exclusion
  • understand the difference between direct discrimination and indirect discrimination
  • understand the key concepts like 'protected characteristic'
  • understand the importance of the Equality Act (2010) in building a fairer, more inclusive society
  • reduce the likelihood of discrimination as defined by the Equality Act through good practice in the workplace
