Inclusive Living Solutions
GCIL currently provides the following Independent Living Support Services aimed at disabled people in Glasgow who are managing, or thinking of managing, their own support system:
Direct Payments
GCIL has been commissioned by Glasgow City Council to support people using Direct Payments to pay for Community Care. Direct Payments offer disabled people increased choice and flexibility by enabling them to recruit their own workers or buy in appropriate services.
Independent Living Support
A one to one support service on all aspects of setting up an Independent Living Support (ILS) Scheme in order to be able to live more independently in the community. These aspects include assistance in preparing for Community Care assessments, liaising with funders and all aspects of successfully managing an ILS Scheme.
Personal Assistant Recruitment Service
A Register of Personal Assistants (PAs) from which disabled people can choose to employ a trained person to help them live independent lives.
Emergency Back-up Service
A 24 hour/365 day a year service which puts disabled people in touch with PAs who are available to provide cover when their own PA is unable to attend due to illness, bereavement, holidays etc. GCIL systematically collects information on the availability of PAs on the Register. A mobile phone with a dedicated number is staffed outside office hours.
PA Employer Training Service
PA Employers can choose from a variety of training modules that will help them to be a good employer and to manage their own Independent Living Support Scheme more effectively. Details of the range of training modules are available from our Training Solutions.
PA Training Service
A two-day training course for people who want to gain employment as Personal Assistants. The first day covers a range of issues, such as Independent Living, the Social Model of Disability, the role of a Personal Assistant, Confidentiality etc. The second day is delivered by a qualified physiotherapist and covers the issues of moving and assisting safely and the use of various types of equipment such as hoists and transfer boards. Full details of this course are available from our Training Solutions.
Payroll Solutions
GCIL’s payroll service, Payroll Solutions, can calculate wages and taxes for PA Employers, provide payslips and prepare records for the Inland Revenue. There is a charge for this service, which can be built into funding packages. Further information, including costs, is available from Payroll Solutions.
