GCIL Professional Careers
GCIL Employment Solutions launches this new initiative across Scotland.
The programme is based upon a well established model, delivered by Positive Action Training in Housing (PATH).
They have been providing traineeships to people from black and minority ethnic groups since 1998 and have been hailed as an “Exemplar of good practice” by Communities Scotland.
GCIL Professional Careers aims to support housing organisations address areas identified within The Disability Discrimination Act 1995 as amended by the Disability Discrimination Act 2005.
The new Act places a duty on all public authorities to promote disability equality. This programme provides support to Social Housing organisations in the development of their policies, practices and procedures in these areas as part of a Disability Equality Scheme.
The programme delivers a positive action programme that seeks to address the under-representation of disabled people in employment in professional positions within Social Housing in Scotland. It operates by offering disabled people the opportunity of a thirty month work placement within housing associations and local authorities throughout Scotland. GCIL Professional Careers trainees undertake a formal housing qualification on a day release basis.
This programme is critical in the implementation of disability rights objectives, through providing an avenue for Social Landlords to implement positive action initiatives.
