GCIL Employment Solutions
GCIL Employment Solutions
- Glasgow Centre for Inclusive Living (GCIL) is a user-led organisation that exists to reduce social exclusion of disabled people.
- GCIL's expertise in the field of disability equality, positive action and innovative employment and training programmes is widely recognised.
- To date, 85% of participants have moved into further open employment or higher education on completion of their contract with GCIL Employment Solutions.
GCIL Employment Solutions is the first programme of its kind in the UK specifically designed to address the employability needs of disabled people whilst offering salaried employment status.
GCIL Employment Solutions have been providing a wide range of training and employment opportunities for disabled people and employers since 2001.
The majority of our dedicated staff team is made up of disabled people, many of whom have themselves experienced the barriers which can isolate and exclude disabled people from employment opportunities.
Statistics:
- There are around 1 million disabled people in Scotland
- Disabled people make up 20% of the working age population
- 48% of disabled people are in employment – compared to 83% of non-disabled people
- Disabled people are 3 times more likely to be unemployed than non-disabled people
Our research has conclusively shown that many disabled people are keen to be more economically active, but are excluded from the labour market by real but surmountable barriers.
GCIL Employment Solutions deliver services in three specific areas;
1. GCIL Employment Project
Is an integrated employment project that provides waged work experience, intensive support, training and personal development to disabled people within a host organisation.
The programme matches opportunity with need and raises the employability of disabled people by enhancing skills, qualifications, employability and confidence to prosper in today’s employment market.
2. GCIL Employment Link Services
GCIL Employment Link Services is a new mainstream initiative for Glasgow.
We are experts in meeting the recruitment and employment needs of both employers and disabled job seekers across all levels of employment and across all sectors.
Our professional team take great care in really getting to know the needs and requirements of each and every one of our employers and our job seeking candidates.
Our goal is to achieve nothing less than a 100% perfect match with each and every placement opportunity.
3. GCIL Professional Careers
This programme delivers a positive action programme across Scotland and seeks to address the under-representation of disabled people in employment in professional positions within Social Housing in Scotland.
The programme operates by offering disabled people the opportunity of a thirty month work placement within housing associations and local authorities throughout Scotland. GCIL Professional Careers trainees undertake a formal housing qualification on a day release basis. The Traineeship programme provides a structured training opportunity consisting of work-based placement and academic education on a day release/open learning basis.
