GCIL Employment Link Services
Employer Survey
Glasgow Centre for Inclusive Living (GCIL) is the largest user-led organisation of disabled people in Scotland and has been a leading promoter of independent living initiatives since 1995.
Glasgow City Council supports the new and innovative employment service from GCIL which aims to provide support and guidance to employers in and around Glasgow on all aspects of the employment of disabled people.
Quote from Councillor Irfan Rabbani, Glasgow City Council Executive Member for Equalities:
"As the Executive Member for Equalities I am delighted to support this initiative from GCIL. In my tenure I have been particularly pleased that GCIL brings forward proposals which intend to make tangible and sustainable differences for disabled people. In a prevailing culture of tick box equality this particular initiative goes against the grain. As a society we need to raise awareness of the benefits of a diverse workforce. Many employers may wish to buy into this ideal but are hesitant for a variety of reasons. The survey will bring the issue out into the open. This proposal aims to work WITH employers to address any concerns they may have. It will allow employers to work with GCIL to do more than merely state “we comply with legislation”. It will also work towards ensuring employers are conforming to disability legislation and employing disabled people not simply because they have to but because they want to and see the benefits to THEIR operations of doing so. GCIL understands many employers may need assistance to help create opportunities for disabled people and through this initiative will provide this vital support."
GCIL Employment Link Services aims to improve the opportunities for disabled people in the employment arena. Our aims are:
- to improve the opportunities for disabled people to access and retain employment; and;
- to offer employers practical support that can improve their policies, practices and procedures in relation to the recruitment and retention of disabled people.
To help us achieve this we would like to invite your organisation to take part in a short survey being carried out amongst a select group of employers in Glasgow and surrounding areas. This will simply involve filling in a brief questionnaire which should take no more than five minutes to complete.
GCIL Employment Link Services will use the results of the questionnaire to identify and focus upon the most important issues raised by you, the employer, in relation to retaining and employing disabled people. Glasgow City Council will also receive a copy of all results. All information provided by you will allow us to build a better picture of the barriers that both employers and disabled people face in the employment arena.
Our joint aim is that Glasgow should be recognised and celebrated as a fully accessible city where employers welcome the talent, skills and commitments that many disabled people bring to the labour market regardless of impairment.
The questionnaire can be completed anonymously, however please understand that should you wish to receive support, your contact details will be required.
For your convenience we have provided 3 different formats to submit your response:
